CBA is a basic science department in the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Faculty in the Department teach in courses in the medical curriculum and a number of graduate and undergraduate courses in the life sciences. The department has an active research program that receives more grant funding than any other basic science department in the College. Faculty members pursue research programs in modern molecular and cellular biology which include areas of developmental biology, neuroscience, parasitology, immunology and cellular structure and function. We have an active graduate program in Cellular and Developmental Biology with approximately 15 graduate students. Additional graduate students from the interdisciplinary programs of Cancer Biology, Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology and Biochemistry, Neuroscience, and Physiological Sciences work in CBA laboratories. CBA has an extensive seminar and journal club program with guest speakers from around the country and abroad. Members of the department provide service to the nation and the university as officers of academic societies, scientific reviewers for the National Institutes of Health and other grant-making organizations, and editors or reviewers for most of the scientific journals in our fields. The department provides a stimulating academic environment and you are invited to explore the scope of these activities as described in this web site.
